Adults are a routine part of the schedule here. Teeth that were straightened in your teens can drift back over the years, and plenty of people never had the chance at braces at all, so adults arrive at very different starting points.

Treatment happens in Suite 600 on South State Road 7, with chairs open Monday through Thursday. The free consultation comes first. You’ll leave it with the fee for your own plan, and you’re not committing to anything by coming in.

The Specialist Behind Your Adult Treatment

First, who will actually be doing the work? Your treatment is planned by Dr. Petrover, an orthodontic specialist.

Who plans and carries out your treatment

Dr. Jonathan Petrover, orthodontic specialist

Orthodontics is Dr. Jonathan Petrover’s specialty, and it’s been that way for more than 20 years. He belongs to the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the South Florida Academy of Orthodontists and the Florida Association of Orthodontists. He also takes 12 to 18 continuing education courses a year, because the brackets and the scanners keep changing.

The American Association of Orthodontists explains that dental specialists complete four years of dental school and then study their specialty full-time for two or more years in an accredited program. That training is what a complicated adult bite gets here.

What that means day to day is continuity: the specialist who reads your x-rays and writes your plan oversees your treatment from then on.

What our patients mention most

Patients here write most about how welcoming the team is and how comfortable the office is to sit in. After that it’s the treatment: Invisalign results, explanations they didn’t need a dental degree to follow, and the retainer follow-up once the braces come off. You can read what our patients say in their own words.

What Adult Treatment Looks Like at Our State Road 7 Office

Before the braces, it helps to have the logistics settled: where you’ll need to be, when, and how often it eats into a working week.

One address, four days a week

Every appointment happens in Suite 600 at 2465 S State Road 7, from records and adjustments to repairs and retainer checks.

We’re open 8am to 5pm, Monday through Thursday, and we’ll look for a time that fits around your working day.

If you’d rather treatment didn’t announce itself at work, ceramic brackets and In-Ovation self-ligating braces are both fitted here, and so is Invisalign. You can pay at the desk by card or contactless. And if a bracket lets go or a wire starts poking between visits, call us and we’ll book you in to fix it.

What your treatment fee covers

  • A free consultation covering your exam, your digital x-rays and a full braces consultation with Dr. Petrover.
  • One fee for the whole course of treatment, covering your diagnostic records, every appliance you need along the way, your retainers and your follow-up appointments.
  • The costs laid out up front once your plan is designed, with no hidden fees.
  • Monthly payment structures with a down payment, so the fee is spread across treatment rather than due up front.
  • Your orthodontic benefit checked before you start, and your claims filed on your behalf.

From First Consultation to Finished Bite

It helps to see the shape of the whole thing before agreeing to any of it. That’s what the first appointment is for.

What happens at your first consultation

  1. Exam and bite check
  2. Digital x-rays
  3. Your plan and fee

That first appointment is the free consultation. Dr. Petrover examines your teeth and your bite, takes digital x-rays, and he’ll go through what he finds with you.

Records are taken with a digital scanner rather than a putty tray. The scan takes a few minutes, and your teeth appear on the screen as it goes. For an adult the x-rays carry extra weight, because any crown or implant already in place is part of what the plan gets built around.

Then you’ll talk it through. Four answers come out of that conversation: what Dr. Petrover sees in your records, which appliances would work on your bite, roughly how long it would take, and what your own fee would be. If something needs taking care of with your dentist first, he’ll say so.

On timing: compared with a child’s, an adult timeline can run longer, because adult teeth sit more firmly in the jaw and take more time and pressure to move. They still move!

Braces or clear aligners: what adults here choose

Adults here can choose from four appliances, and which suits you comes out of the exam.

Appliance What it suits
Metal braces Heavier crowding and bite work, where a fixed appliance stays on the job without you thinking about it
Ceramic brackets Work that puts you in front of people. Still fixed braces, in brackets far less visible
In-Ovation self-ligating braces Fixed braces where the bracket holds the wire in its own clip, so there are no elastic ties to change
Invisalign clear aligners Routines that can take aligners out for a meal and put them straight back in

Dr. Petrover will tell you which of these fits your bite. If you’d like to read up first, there’s a page on self-ligating brackets.

Who Adult Treatment Suits, and What It Costs in Wellington

For a lot of adults, the braces aren’t what causes the hesitation. It’s the worry of having left it too late, and not knowing what the number will be.

Are you a candidate?

The deciding factor is whether your teeth and the bone holding them are healthy. Age isn’t it.

Healthy teeth can be moved at any age. What changes for an adult is the planning: the jaw has stopped growing, and existing dental work such as a crown or an implant needs working around rather than moving.

The AAO reports that one in three orthodontic patients is now over 18, and the number of adults seeing an orthodontist is at an all-time high. If you feel late to this, you’re in a very large crowd.

An unhealthy mouth does change the order of things. Active gum disease or untreated decay gets treated by your dentist before teeth start moving, and the AAO notes that in many cases treatment can’t begin until conditions like cavities are dealt with. The exam is what finds it, and we’ll tell you what needs doing and who should do it.

What adult treatment costs here

Woman reviewing bills with a calculator

A price on its own tells you very little, because braces fees vary widely by case and by region. What matters is what the number covers. Here it covers your diagnostic records, the appliances you need through treatment, your retainers at the end and your follow-up appointments.

You get one fee for your full plan at your free consultation.

Treatment can be paid monthly after a down payment. Insurance benefits can bring the figure down. We’ll verify your orthodontic benefit before you begin and file every claim on your behalf, and we work with most PPO plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Assurant, Guardian, MetLife, Humana, Delta Dental and Solstice. There’s more on how our fees are structured and on the insurance we accept. These are the monthly examples we publish:

Treatment Orthodontic Benefits in one’s Dental Insurance Per month Down payment
Comprehensive Treatment without Orthodontic Benefits $190 – $250 $500
Comprehensive Treatment with $1500 of Orthodontic Benefits $140 – $190 $500
Limited Treatment without Orthodontic Benefits $135 – $275 $500
Limited Treatment with $1500 of Orthodontic Benefits $20 – $150 $500

Those are examples, not a quote. We’ll only be able to provide an accurate fee for your treatment once we’ve done a complimentary consultation and treatment plan.

Common Questions from Adult Patients in Wellington

Is 25 too late to get braces?
No. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and what decides treatment is whether the bone holding them is healthy rather than how many birthdays are behind you. The AAO reports that one in three orthodontic patients is now over 18, and the number of adults seeing an orthodontist is at an all-time high. There’s more on our adult braces and Invisalign page.
Is it a good idea to get braces at 55 years old?
Age on its own isn’t the deciding factor. If your teeth and gums are healthy, they can still be moved, because the bone around them remodels, and healthy bone keeps doing that at 55. What takes planning is the dental work already in your mouth: a crown or an implant gets designed around, and that’s what the exam and the x-rays are for.
How much is it for an adult to get braces?
There’s no single figure, because the fee tracks the case. What matters is what it covers, and here one fee covers your diagnostic records, the appliances you need through treatment, your retainers and your follow-up appointments. You get your own figure at the consultation, which is free, a $249 value. The monthly examples we publish are on our cost of treatment page.
Can you get free braces as an adult?
Generally not through Florida Medicaid, which lists orthodontics among its dental services for recipients under 21, and then only when a case qualifies medically. Its adult list, from age 21, centers on emergency procedures and dentures. Private coverage varies by plan, and the consultation here is free. We’ll check your benefit and file your claims, and the rest is spread monthly. Our insurance page lists the plans we work with.
What are the alternatives to braces?
Clear aligners such as Invisalign are the main alternative, and ceramic brackets are still fixed braces but far less visible. After earlier treatment, a small relapse is sometimes handled by a retainer alone. Which of these would actually work for you depends on your bite, and that’s what the consultation settles. Read more about Invisalign at our Wellington office.
This page is general information about orthodontic treatment, not medical or dental advice, and reading it doesn’t create a doctor-patient relationship. Results vary from patient to patient, and whether adult treatment suits you can only be decided after an in-person exam. The payment figures shown are the examples published on our cost of treatment page, not a quote. Please speak with Dr. Petrover or another qualified orthodontist about your own care.
