We treat kids and teens with braces and Invisalign Teen at our Boynton Beach office on South Military Trail. Your child’s first consultation is free, and the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first check by age 7.

Maybe your dentist mentioned at the last cleaning that your teen might need braces. Or you’ve watched your child’s new teeth come in crowded and you’re wondering whether to wait. Either way, don’t worry. Here’s what your child’s first visit at our Boynton Trail Centre office on South Military Trail looks like, what treatment costs and how families across Palm Beach County pay for it. For how braces and Invisalign Teen work, see our guide further down.
Pediatric dentist or orthodontist? Here’s who does what.
You need both, and they do different jobs. Your child keeps seeing their regular or pediatric dentist for cleanings and checkups. An orthodontist looks after the bite and how the teeth line up. The American Association of Orthodontists explains that orthodontists complete four years of dental school and then two or more years of full-time study in an accredited specialty program. So if you’ve been searching for a pediatric orthodontist, what you’re really looking for is an orthodontist who treats kids and teens. That’s what we do here.
Dr. Jonathan Petrover has worked as a specialist in orthodontics for more than 20 years. He’s a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the South Florida Academy of Orthodontists and the Florida Association of Orthodontists, and he attends 12 to 18 continuing-education courses a year. Read more about Dr. Petrover’s background.
If you’ve got several kids who might need braces, this part matters:
Not every first visit ends with braces. Sometimes Dr. Petrover’s advice is to wait and watch, and that’s a perfectly good answer to walk out with. If he recommends waiting, we’ll send you a reminder as the time approaches.
Braces don’t have to bench your teen!
Good news: you don’t need to pick a treatment before you come in. That’s what the first visit is for.
Braces
Clear ceramic braces suit older teens who want something more subtle.

Invisalign Teen
Invisalign Teen works just like adult Invisalign, with clear, removable aligners instead of brackets. The AAO says aligners are typically worn at least 22 hours a day, so they suit teens who’ll wear them as directed.
Which suits your child depends on their bite, and Dr. Petrover will explain the options at the consultation. For the full picture, see how braces and Invisalign Teen compare for kids and teens.
The AAO recommends a first check-up with an orthodontist by age 7, when children have a mix of baby and permanent teeth.
In our experience, most children won’t gain anything from braces or orthodontic treatment before they reach second grade, so for a young child the visit may simply end with a plan to check again later.
Here’s the age-7 check explained.
Wondering whether you need a referral? You do not have to wait for a dentist to refer your child to an orthodontist.
And please come along! We encourage parents to join the conversation.
You’ve probably got a couple of questions by now: does my teen really need this, and what’s it going to cost?
Signs that it may be time for an orthodontic consultation include:
There’s no single price for a child’s or teen’s treatment, because the fee depends on the complexity of the treatment needed. A mild case of crowding and a bite that needs more work won’t cost the same. At the consultation, before you commit, we’ll give you one all-inclusive price and a custom payment plan built around your budget and timeline. There are no add-on fees for different aspects of treatment.
We offer interest-free financing options, customized to your budget, and in-house financing with low, predictable monthly payments and auto-pay. Paying in full? There are savings for that! If you’d like a rough ballpark, here are the monthly payment examples we publish. Your child’s own fee is set at the consultation.
If your plan includes an orthodontic benefit, we’ll help you use it. Our team verifies your orthodontic benefits before treatment begins, files all claims on your behalf and follows up on them. We work with most PPO plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Assurant, Guardian, MetLife, Humana, Delta Dental and Solstice. HSA and FSA funds can be used for braces or Invisalign, and we’ll provide everything you need for reimbursement. You can check the plans and payment options we work with, or simply bring your card to the consultation and we’ll look it up for you.
