Who is Dr. Petrover?

Dr. Jonathan Petrover has spent more than 20 years working as a specialist in orthodontics. He’s a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and three Florida and regional orthodontic societies. Your first visit is a free comprehensive consultation

The consultation is a $249 value and we don’t charge for it. It includes an initial exam, digital x-rays and a full braces consultation with Dr. Petrover. By the end of it you’ll know whether you or your child needs treatment, which options would work, roughly how long it would take, and what the fee would be.

You’re not committing to anything by coming in. Plenty of people consult, go home, think about it for a few months, then come back. That’s normal.

Digital impressions, not goopy trays

If your memory of orthodontics involves a tray of putty and the urge to gag, that part is gone. We take digital impressions with a scanner instead. It takes a few minutes, there’s nothing to swallow, and the scan can be reused later without dragging you back in for another one.

If something breaks, call us

Brackets come loose and wires poke. It happens to most patients at least once, usually at the least convenient moment. Call the office and we’ll get you seen the same day whenever possible, rather than leaving you to wait for your next scheduled adjustment. What to Expect at Our Wellington Office

Most of the worry about orthodontics is really worry about the unknown. Here’s the whole arc, start to finish.

What happens at your first visit?

You’ll fill out your paperwork, meet the team, and have digital x-rays and a scan taken. Then Dr. Petrover looks at your teeth and your bite and talks you through what he sees, using your own images rather than a generic diagram. If treatment isn’t needed yet, he’ll say so and we’ll simply check again in six months or a year. What treatment looks like day to day

Once braces or aligners are on, you’ll come in every few weeks for an adjustment. Those appointments are short. The first few days after braces go on, and the first day or two after each adjustment, teeth feel tender, and soft food and a mild pain reliever handle it for most people. Between visits, life goes on more or less as normal. You’ll brush more carefully and give up a few foods, and that’s most of the adjustment.

The food list is shorter than people fear. We tell patients to avoid anything sticky, hard or chewy, so popcorn kernels, ice, hard candy, whole apples and caramel are out for the duration (apple slices are fine). It matters more than it sounds: a broken bracket means an extra visit, and enough of those stretch your treatment out. Cleaning takes longer, because food traps around brackets and the spots it hides in are exactly where chalky white marks start. After your braces come off

Teeth drift back toward where they started if nothing holds them, so treatment doesn’t end the day the brackets come off. You’ll be fitted with a retainer, and wearing it is what protects the result you just spent a year or two paying for. We’ll show you exactly how long to wear it and how to look after it.

Is Orthodontic Treatment Right for You?

When should my child first see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic check-up by age seven. That surprises a lot of parents, because most seven-year-olds are nowhere near ready for braces. The point of the visit isn’t to start treatment. It’s to see how the jaw is growing and whether the adult teeth have room to come in, while there’s still time for that to be guided simply and affordably. Often the answer is that nothing needs doing yet, and we just keep an eye on it. Where early work does help, two-phase treatment can make the second phase shorter. If you’re looking specifically for braces for kids, we treat children of all ages.

Am I too old for braces?

No. Teeth move at any age because the biology is the same at 40 as it is at 14. The AAO reports that one in three orthodontic patients is now over 18, an all-time high. Adults usually care most about how visible treatment is, which is why clear aligners and ceramic brackets get chosen so often here. Adult treatment sometimes takes longer than the same correction would in a teenager, but the teeth still move.

What does treatment cost, and what does insurance cover?

There’s no single price for braces, and anyone who quotes you one before looking in your mouth is guessing. The fee depends on how much movement is needed, which appliance you choose, and how long you’ll be in treatment. A minor correction and a full bite correction are different pieces of work.

Here’s how we handle it. At your free consultation we work out your treatment plan first, then give you the actual fee for that plan, in writing, before you commit to anything. One thing worth asking any orthodontist: what’s actually included. Ours covers the diagnostic records, the appliances you need through treatment, your retainers at the end, and follow-up appointments. We work with most PPO plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, United Healthcare, Guardian and Humana, and we’ll check your orthodontic benefit for you. We also offer payment plans, so most families spread the cost monthly rather than paying up front.
